South African Metropolis Named Africa’s Most Visited City

4.3 million people are expected to have visited the city by the end of next month and a whooping $3.2 billion have also been spent in the city by tourists.

South African city Johannesburg, has been revealed as the Most Visited City in Africa.
Johannesburg which by population is the largest city in South Africa has been given the title second time in a row according to the latest destination index published by MasterCard on Thursday, November 6.
At least 4.3 million people are expected to have visited the city by the end of next month, a 4.9 percent increase over last year’s 4.1 million visitors. The tourists are expected to spend some $3.2 billion compared to $3.06 billion last year. The study ranks 132 cities worldwide in terms of international visitor arrivals and their spending.
Johannesburg is followed by Cape Town, which should get 1.6 million visitors as the second destination of choice in Africa.
Trailing Cape Town is Cairo in Egypt, followed by Nigeria’s Lagos with 1.33 million, and then Morocco’s Casablanca with slightly under a million tourists.
